Mission of the
ERDENE Program
"Environmental Research, Development and Education for the New
Economy" (ERDENE) supports innovative research, education and outreach
initiatives seeking to understand, sustain or restore environmental
and ecological health. ERDENE focuses on projects applicable to the
real world and particularly on environmental initiatives that promise
to strengthen economic well being and community viability in Arizona.
The program encourages research, teaching and public outreach that
enable NAU faculty, staff and students to address the interrelated
environmental, economic and social needs of the 21st century.
Goals of the
ERDENE program
- Promote environmental
health
- Address significant real
world problems
- Support environmental
initiatives having economic and social benefits in Arizona
- Leverage additional funds
to advance the above goals
Categories of
Award
Small Grants up to $25,000. These are primarily but not exclusively
for new projects seeking seed money to begin initial project
activities. We anticipate at least 20% of the total awards will be for
new projects.
Larger Grants up to $75,000. These are primarily but not exclusively
for projects that have already begun and need to continue or expand
their activities.
A proposal for a single project may be submitted in only one of the
above categories. Two or more proposals for unrelated projects may be
submitted in one category or both categories.
Eligibility
The ERDENE Open Competition seeks to provide seed funding for a wide
range of projects during their first and second years in the
expectation that additional sources of support will be found for
continuation thereafter. In keeping with this philosophy, the
following criteria of eligibility have been determined for the ERDENE
Open Competition. Please note these criteria apply to the Open
Competition Only.
- NAU faculty or staff or
teams headed by NAU faculty or staff
- Investigators proposing
projects that have received one year of ERDENE funding for 2004-05
are eligible to propose continuation of the same project for a
second year of ERDENE support.
- Investigators proposing
projects that have already received two or more years of ERDENE
funding may request support only for an entirely new project.
