Mission of the ERDENE
Environmental Research, Development and Education for the New
Economy (ERDENE) supports innovative research, education and
outreach initiatives seeking to understand, sustain or restore
environmental and ecological health. ERDENE focuses on projects
applicable to the real world and particularly on environmental
initiatives that promise to strengthen economic well being and
community viability in Arizona. Specific areas of focus based on the
Battelle report to the Arizona Department of Commerce include: water
resources and management, sustainable rural and tribal communities,
ecological restoration and mitigation, renewable energy, and
environmental monitoring and management. The program encourages

staff and students to address the interrelated environmental,
economic and social needs of the 21st century.
