Collaborators
Centennial Forest
In 1959, the Arizona State Land Department designated 4,000
acres of forest land as an "outdoor laboratory" for the School of
Forestry at Arizona State College in Flagstaff (now Northern Arizona
University). The research and education programs initiated by the
School of Forestry helped establish it as one of the top rated
forestry institutions in the country.
Center for
Environmental Science and Education
An interdisciplinary program leading to a Bachelor of Science
degree in Environmental Sciences in one of eight different focus
areas, bringing together four separate Colleges within NAU, as well as
a new Master of Science degree in Environmental Sciences and Policy.
Bilby Research
Center
CSE's research arm facilitates original
field and lab studies of environmental change by NAU faculty, staff
and students by providing a wide range of analytical tools and support
as well as sophisticated editing, imaging and illustration services.
Earthnotes on KNAU - Arizona Public Radio
From the foods that nourish us to the rains that replenish our
streams and rivers, from the materials we use to build our homes to
the spiritual sustenance of bird songs and sunsets, nature imbues our
lives. It’s our home. Earth Notes explores this home by telling
fascinating stories of the intricate relationships between
environmental issues and our daily lives.
Ecological Restoration Institute
Academic study, research, and practical ecological restoration
projects are brought together in an innovative institute at NAU.
Students can incorporate a restoration emphasis into their
undergraduate and graduate programs. For undergraduates of any
academic major, a unique undergraduate research or fieldwork
opportunity complements coursework to allow students to gain solid
work experience in conjunction with an independent project to
investigate and apply restoration principles on the ground.
Environmental
Communication Resource Center, School of Communication
The
Environmental Communication Resource Center (ECRC) was established in
1996 as a resource center for information, research and discussion
concerning Environmental Communication. ECRC is housed in the School
of Communication at Northern Arizona University, located in Flagstaff,
Arizona at an elevation of 7,000 feet beneath the majestic San
Francisco Peaks. Founders and co-directors of the Center are
professors Lea J. Parker and C. Brant Short. The mission of ECRC is to
promote scholarship, pedagogy and public service in all aspects of
Environmental Communication.
ForestERA
This new project
will develop integrated spatial databases pertinent to forest and
wildlife management efforts in northern Arizona. The two-year effort
will also develop the analytical tools needed to make practical use of
this information in planning and implementing forest restoration
throughout this geographic region. The project will produce a
comprehensive landscape assessment addressing forest, fire, and
wildlife issues, and it will make available to all collaborators the
databases and analytical tools developed in conducting this
assessment.
Institute for Tribal Environmental Professionals
ITEP acts as a
catalyst among tribal governments, research and technical resources at
NAU, various federal, state and local governments, and the private
sector, in support of environmental protection of Native American
natural resources. ITEP was established at Northern Arizona University
(NAU) in 1992, in cooperation with the U.S. Environmental Protection
Agency.
Land Use History of the
Colorado Plateau (CP-LUHNA)
