Sustainability Success Stories
Thursday, April 29, 7:00 p.m.
Cline Library Auditorium

L. Hunter Lovins, co-author of Natural Capitalism, will be speaking at Northern Arizona University’s Cline Library Auditorium on Thursday, April 29 at 7:00 p.m. She will be presenting on Natural Assets and giving updated success stories. This event is free and open to the public. In addition, there will be copies of Ms. Lovins’ book, Natural Capitalism, for sale at a reduced price.

Publisher's Weekly calls Natural Capitalism "an ambitious, visionary monster of a book… the book's reach is phenomenal. It belongs to the galvanizing tradition of Frances Moore Lappé's Diet for a Small Planet and Stewart Brand's The Whole Earth Catalog."

L. Hunter Lovins, Esq. is the president of Natural Capitalism, Inc. A renowned author and champion of sustainable development for over 30 years, she has managed international non-profits, taught at major universities, advised citizens’ groups, governments and corporations, and is in great demand as an inspirational speaker and effective consultant.

Hunter believes that individuals working together within a market context are the most dynamic problem-solving force on the planet. She has devoted herself to building teams that can create and implement practical, affordable solutions to the problems facing us.

L. Hunter Lovins is a former co-CEO of Rocky Mountain Institute, a Colorado-based nonprofit resource policy think tank. She holds a B.A. from Pitzer College, a J.D. from Loyola University School of Law with the Alumni Award for Outstanding Service to the School, and an honorary LH.D. from the University of Maine.

Lovins helped establish and, for six years, was Assistant Director of the California Conservation Project (“Tree People”), an innovative urban forestry and environmental education group. In 1982, with Amory Lovins, she co-founded RMI, now a 45-person organization that conducts research and provides consulting services in a variety of fields. They also co-founded E SOURCE, a for-profit spinoff that RMI sold to the Financial Times Group in 1999.

Ms. Lovins has co-authored eight books, notably Energy/War: Breaking the Nuclear Link (1980), Brittle Power: Energy Strategy for National Security (1982), and Factor Four: Doubling Wealth, Halving Resource Use (1997). Frances Cairncross of The Economist called the latter “essential reading for anyone who wants to understand the ways technology can be put to the service of the environment.”

Ms. Lovins will be autographing copies of Natural Capitalism after her presentation. There will also be books by Gary Nabhan for sale and he will be available to autograph copies.

This event is sponsored by the Center for Sustainable Environments.
